How to Alphabetize a List in Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word’s popularity isn’t just because it has been around for a long time. It also has a lot to do with how many people use it. It’s also because it has so many features that you can use, which makes it even better. When it comes to sorting, Microsoft Word doesn’t just let you sort from A to Z, which is called alphabetizing. It also lets you sort by number and even by date.

When you use text to sort, you have two choices. You could either choose to sort by ascending order or by descending order, but you could also choose to do both. You would start with ‘A’ at the top and end with ‘Z’ at the bottom. Going down in order would change the way things work.

When you put numbers in ascending or descending order, the smaller number would be at the top or the bottom. You can also sort by date. The same thing happens when you do that, too.

The following are the actions to take in order to alphabetize (or sort) the list:

1. On your computer, go to the Microsoft Word home screen. There is a Home tab on top of your screen. Now, click on it.

2. Then, in the Paragraph area, click Sort (highlighted in the image). Open the Sort Text window.

3. To change the order of the list from Z to A (Descending), click OK. In the second picture, you can see the end result.

4. If you want to put the list in the Word Document above in alphabetical order, you can click Sort to do that. But this time, choose Ascending and click OK to finish. You can see the result in the second picture.
